Emma Hagen

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Emma provides a confidential space and a collaborative relationship that offers you the chance to explore personal issues and relationships in a creative and supportive way.  She work with adults, children and young people, and groups. She offers short or long-term therapy depending on your needs.  An experienced Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychodrama Psychotherapist, Emma combines her knowledge and experience to respond uniquely to you through a combination of listening, talking and creative action methods.

Significant life experiences impact upon people in all sorts of ways, and at times it can feel as if our experiences, and their impact, define us. Emma works holistically with the whole person, to support you in identifying and embodying personal strengths, which can encourage growth and resilience when facing the more difficult aspects of your life.

Psychodrama, underpinned by the person-centred approach, can be an empowering alternative to traditional talking therapy, and even the most challenging of life experiences can be explored in an energising, and often fun, way.  Psychodrama offers the opportunity to look at situations from the past, the present and the future in the ‘here and now’ and allows you to express yourself and your emotions, safely and in confidence.  Through Psychodrama, you can:

  • have conversations which are, or can feel impossible to have in real life
  • explore experiences from life which you would like to have done differently
  • explore the existing roles you play in life and try out new roles you would like to play
  • explore scenes in your future and from your imagination
  • find creative and spontaneous ways to express the unexpressed facets of yourself and your emotions
  • return to experiences from your past which:
    1. were difficult – in order to make some sense of them or to find closure or healing
    2. are treasured – in order to experience them all over again

Some of the things Emma has experience of working with:

  • Everyday existential concerns and personal development
  • Relationship issues
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Complex trauma and PTSD
  • Childhood trauma
  • Rape and sexual assault
  • Domestic abuse
  • Mental health difficulties ranging from low mood, acute anxiety and depression, to severe and enduring conditions

Emma is a UKCP registered supervisor, and offers Creative Supervision for individuals, groups of practitioners, counselling and psychotherapy trainees. She is keen to offer a relationship and creative space, where supervisees can bring all of themselves, go beyond words in expression of their experience, and develop their confidence, competence and creativity. Using creative action methods in supervision offers a person-centred approach with a difference, which can be both powerful and fun.
